Doing digital right: IMD once again awarded for the excellence of its online learning

Four IMD online programs win new Brandon Hall awards for excellence in technology
January 2019

Digital Disruption, Changing Employee Behavior, Strategic Thinking, and Business Finance are the latest IMD online-based programs to win accolades for their high-quality, innovation and effectiveness.

These programs were recently honored with Brandon Hall awards in the Excellence in Technology (Best Advance in Unique Learning Technology) category, bringing the percentage of IMD online programs that have been recognized with awards up to over one third.

“We are delighted to gain yet further recognition for IMD’s unique online programs. The combination of IMD’s cutting edge research, world leading faculty, and expert coaches providing personalized feedback systematically yield measurable impact for our participants. With a portfolio of 13 programs covering various facets of business we are pleased to bring IMD pedagogy – characterized by real learning, real impact – to a global audience,” said Paul Hunter, Director of Digital Learning at IMD.

Recipe for success

IMD’s online programs have a 90%+ participant traction and completion rate and aim to make a significant improvement to executives’ personal and business performance, positively influencing their careers. The immersive and interactive experience of IMD online learning guarantees constant opportunities to apply what participants learn, ensuring high-impact directly in the workplace.

If watching videos is what comes to mind when you think about online learning, think again: IMD’s programs include a wide range of content formats. Individual assignments, virtual group work, case studies, readings, personalized feedback from the program coach, peer reviews with other participants from across the globe, and personal reflection moments – are all combined to stimulate participants’ thinking, unlock new insights, and firmly embed the learning. In addition, each participant has an individual coach who provides personalized feedback on every individual assignment. This is one of the greatest catalysts for learning and for driving behavioral change.

Three main principles underpin IMD’s approach to open and customized online programs:

1. Learning application rather than pure knowledge dissemination
The design of IMD’s online programs are constantly centered on ensuring participants apply and transfer learning into their professional context

2. Reverse learning design
A ‘begin at the end’ approach ensures that all key stakeholders keep the participant learning experience front and central in all design, production and delivery decisions

3. Modularity
Each program consists of separate units. They seamlessly combine into a coherent overall learning journey. At the same time, each unit may be taken separately as a standalone learning experience and be combined with other IMD face-to-face or online programs to create a custom journey

The award entries were evaluated by a panel of veteran, independent senior industry experts, Brandon Hall Group analysts and executives. The award ceremony takes place at the HCM Excellence Conference 2019 at the Hilton in West Palm Beach, Florida on 24 January 2019.
