The case is about the largest North American retailer in consumer electronics. Founded in 1966, Best Buy has overcome severe challenges to its very survival to become the undisputed industry leader. The case describes the challenges faced by the company’s current CEO, Brad Anderson, who recently took over from Best Buy’s legendary founder, Dick Schulze. Anderson is trying to set an aggressive growth agenda for Best Buy. The ensuing strategy, organizational and people dilemmas are described, inviting the participant to simulate the leadership challenges in sustaining superior performance.
