IMD’s Julia Binder shortlisted for Thinkers50 Innovation Award

Professor of Sustainable Innovation and Business Transformation Julia Binder is nominated for her work on sustainable entrepreneurs.

IMD Professor Julia Binder is the latest faculty member to have been shortlisted for the 2023 Thinkers50 awards.

Binder, who is Director of IMD’s Center for Sustainable and Inclusive Business, was shortlisted for the Innovation Award, which recognizes the thinker who has contributed the most to our understanding of innovation over the last two years.

Her research explores the processes, strategies, and mechanisms that allow entrepreneurs and managers to combine economic, social, and environmental impact in their businesses. Rather than viewing companies and their activities as a hindrance to sustainability, Binder argues that seizing their size and scale for positive impact will be decisive in halting environmental degradation and reducing social inequalities.

Binder is the third IMD Professor to have been shortlisted for the 2023 awards. Earlier this month, Mohan Subramaniam, Professor of Strategy and Digital Transformation, and Howard Yu, LEGO® Professor of Management and Innovation, were both shortlisted for the Thinkers 50 Strategy Award.

Last month, IMD Professor of Leadership and Organizational Change Michael Watkins was inducted into the Thinkers50 Management Hall of Fame, which recognizes remarkable contributions to the realm of management concepts and ideas over several decades.

The winners of all Thinkers50 Awards categories will be announced at the Thinkers50 Awards Gala 2023 in London on the 5-6 November.

Every two years, Thinkers50 reveals their shortlists for the Thinkers50 Distinguished Achievement Awards. These awards recognize eight outstanding thinkers in each category for their substantial contributions over the preceding two years.
