IMD World Competitiveness Center leads Mega Dive to boost Thailand’s competitiveness

The intensive event was organized to help define the country’s regulatory environment
March 2016

Thailand’s Department of Trade Negotiations (DTN, Ministry of Commerce) recently partnered with the IMD World Competitiveness Center  for a series of events aimed at improving Thailand’s competitiveness.

Capped off with a highly dynamic and interactive workshop called a Mega Dive, the session included several interrelated activities.

Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Somkid Jatusripitak and Minister of Commerce Mrs. Apiradi Tantraporn represented Thailand while Professor Arturo Bris, Director of the IMD World Competitiveness Center, led the proceedings.

The Mega Dive brought together Thailand’s public and private sectors to come up with recommendations in order to boost the country’s competitive environment.

“Our responsibility as an academic institution and as a think tank was to develop this process that would lead to tangible and winnable initiatives for Thailand to improve its competitiveness. It has been an amazing journey,” said IMD finance professor and Director of the IMD World Competitiveness Center Arturo Bris.

The Mega Dive is a one day event that gathers large groups of stakeholders from an organization to innovatively draw a road map toward the future.

Fun, fruitful, innovative, persuasive, result-oriented, challenging, impactful: these are just a few of the words participants from the Mega Dive in Thailand used to describe the sessions with the IMD World Competitiveness Center.

“What we are doing is extremely relevant; what we decided at the Mega Dive will certainly shape the economic agenda of Thailand,” said Arturo Bris.

After the Mega Dive, the process to help Thailand discover how to become more competitive continues and the IMD World Competitiveness Center will work together with public and private sector entities to find ways to implement what was decided at the event.

“The Mega Dive takes learning to a different dimension,” said IMD Professor Cyril Bouquet who first created and has orchestrated Mega Dives for a number of IMD clients. “By mixing people from different industries with different challenges and perspectives on the same issues, we are able to test and refine ideas and turn them into workable solutions. It’s amazing to feel the creative energy and passion these dives evoke.”
