Gerry Tsoukalas

Visiting Professor

Gerry Tsoukalas is a Visiting Professor at IMD and an Associate Professor of Information Systems at Boston University’s Questrom School of Business, where he also serves as the Director of Graduate Analytics. In addition to these primary roles, he holds distinguished fellowships at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, the Cornell FinTech Initiative, BU’s Digital Business Institute, and the Luohan Academy (an affiliate of the Alibaba Group). 

His award-winning work has made significant contributions to digital platforms and business analytics, particularly within the FinTech industry. As a pivotal figure in establishing the Crypto and Blockchain Economics Research Forum (CBER), he has been instrumental in advancing the study of digital currencies and blockchain technology. He also holds appointments on the editorial boards of multiple leading international business and management journals, underscoring his significant role in shaping academic discourse around digital innovation and digital business models. 

Separately, Tsoukalas is celebrated for his hands-on teaching style, which bridges theoretical knowledge with practical applications. He is an acclaimed educator in undergraduate, MBA, and executive programs, having taught at BU, Wharton, and Columbia Business School over the last decade.

After earning degrees in quantum physics and aerospace engineering in France, Tsoukalas pursued further studies in the US at MIT and Stanford University, where he completed a PhD in management science and engineering. Beyond his academic career, Tsoukalas brings extensive industry experience across various sectors. Starting as a structured products trader at Morgan Stanley, he transitioned to a versatile consultant. His expertise ranges from traditional finance to innovative AI applications in healthcare, investment management, and FinTech.  

His work is dedicated to converting scholarly insights into actionable strategies, navigating organizations through the complexities of the digital era. This philosophy underpins his mission to make advanced analytics accessible and actionable for business leaders, empowering them to leverage their deep business knowledge for impactful decisions.  

Tsoukalas regularly advises startups, government agencies, and multinationals, blending academic research with practical solutions for digital transformation and strategic innovation.
