Case Study

Ed Tomechko's scorecard

Reference: IMD-3-0766

Ed Tomechko’s Scorecard was written as a sequel to the IMD case study titled “NetRadio: Transforming a Dot.Com Pioneer”. In this follow-up case study, the casewriters summarize Tomechko’s successes prior to the company’s IPO, and his accomplishments during the twelve months following the IPO. This case should be used as an in-class supplement and should not be distributed to the participants beforehand. It is best used as a complement to part two of the video series developed to accompany the NetRadio case. Together, they highlight Tomechko’s accomplishments as CEO and force the students to evaluate these in light of the company’s poor stock performance. The case raises questions about the validity of stock market measures for evaluating the contributions of a dot.com CEO.
