As the crisis team works to ascertain the flow of components from Japanese suppliers, the limits of an arm’s-length relationship with suppliers become apparent as unexpected problems arise with second- and third-tier suppliers. Unfolding events create unexpected consequences that affect share price placing an even greater responsibility on the crisis team.

Learning Objective

The case enables participants to understand the benefits of a close relationship with key suppliers, particularly in a crisis situation which could have repercussions for the whole company/industry.
