Case Study

Tetra Pak: Freedom with accountability

11 pages
December 2000
Reference: IMD-2-0093

The case looks at the strategic options and potential conflicts facing Teresa Presas following her promotion to director for corporate environmental affairs. She is preparing a new corporate (global) environmental strategy for Tetra Pak which she is about to present to group management. She has circulated the draft strategy for internal review and has received comments from colleagues in Asia and North America. Based on their feedback, Presas must decide how much she should take regional factors into account in setting a global strategy for the organization given that the two regions have different views on important pillars of the strategy.
