Ivan Miroshnychenko
Ivan Miroshnychenko is a Research Fellow and Term Research Professor of Family Business and Sustainability at IMD.
Prior to joining IMD, Miroshnychenko has held research positions and professorships at universities and research institutions in the United Kingdom (Lancaster University), Germany (WZB Berlin Social Science Center, Free University of Berlin, and Humboldt University of Berlin), Sweden (Linnaeus University) and Italy (Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies, and Free University of Bozen-Bolzano).
He carries out research on the economics and management of family businesses and sustainability, with a focus on how to manage growth dynamics, nurture environmental champions, and design successful family-business governance mechanisms. His research has been published in top academic journals, including Business Strategy and the Environment, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Economic Notes, Family Business Review, Journal of Management Studies, Journal of World Business, Journal of Business Research, Journal of Family Business and Strategy, Journal of Cleaner Production, R&D Management, Small Business Economics: An Entrepreneurship Journal, Technological Forecasting and Social Change. His articles were also listed among the Most Downloaded Papers 2023 in Small Business Economics: An Entrepreneurship Journal, the Most Cited Articles in 2020-2023 in the Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice Journal, the Most Cited Articles in 2020-2023 in the Family Business Review Journal, and among the Top Cited Articles in 2019-2020 in the Economic Notes. He is also Associate Editor of European Management Journal and Member of the Editorial Board of Journal of Family Business Strategy.
Miroshnychenko has won prestigious research awards including 2023 Best Paper Award at the 12th Conference of German-Speaking Research Centers and Institutes for Family Businesses (FIFU), 2022 Best Paper Award at the 17th European Institute for Advanced Management Studies (EIASM) Workshop on Family Firm Management Research, 2022 Best Paper Award at the International Family Enterprise Research Academy (IFERA) Conference, 2022 Best Paper Award on “Management Challenges in Family Business” at the European Academy of Management (EURAM) Conference, an Honorable Mention for the 2022 Family Firm Institute (FFI) Best Unpublished Research Paper Award, 2021 Family Business Review (FBR) Excellent Reviewer Award, 2021 Best Paper at the Academy of Management Conference (Organizations and the Natural Environment Division), 2020 Research Award of the Südtiroler Sparkasse Foundation at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, 2020 Best Reviewer Award at the International Family Enterprise Research Academy (IFERA) Conference, 2019 Best Paper Contribution to Practice Award at the International Family Enterprise Research Academy (IFERA) Conference, and 2013 University of South Australia International PhD Student Competition Winner.
His research has also received numerous grants and scholarships from various public funding bodies and private organizations, including the Institute for Economic Thinking, Cato Institute, John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation, the Institute for New Economic Thinking, Research and Development Management Association, the Swedish Institute, the Study Foundation of the Berlin House of Representatives, the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies and the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano.
Miroshnychenko holds a PhD in management (innovation, services and sustainability) from the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies and an MSc in management and strategy (entrepreneurship) from the University of Sheffield.
