The nomination is closely linked to her article “What’s your leadership origin story?”, co-authored with Brianna Caza and Wei Zheng, which was published in HBR last year. It explores the personal stories of 92 leaders, to shed light on four distinct types of leadership narratives: being, engaging, performing and accepting.
The article also dives deep into gender disparities, offering suggestions as to how leaders can better understand — and build on — their leadership stories.

Every two years, Thinkers50 announces the shortlists for the Thinkers50 Distinguished Achievement Awards. The shortlists identify eight thinkers in various categories — such as innovation, digital thinking and putting ideas into practice — who have made an exceptional contribution over the last two years.
“Every time we go through this process we are amazed at the sheer range of brilliant ideas, thinking and best practice which is out in the world. It is simply a matter of uncovering the individuals and organizations and celebrating their brilliance!” the organizers said.
“Our belief at Thinkers50 has always been that ideas can – and must be – a force for good in the world. Fresh thinking drives the world forward and allows us to tackle some of the huge problems we now face.”
Thinkers50 was inspired by the late CK Prahalad and, in particular, his book ‘The Fortune at the Bottom of the Pyramid’ which changed perceptions and created opportunities for some of the poorest people on earth.
The team at Thinkers50 draws a parallel between Prahalad and the shortlisted thinkers of 2021, saying: “They are activists who want to make the world a better place, whether that is through better understanding of technology, improving the quality of leadership in organizations or broadening understanding of exciting concepts such as cooperative advantage. They are the thinkers the future demands.
The 2021 winners will be announced at the Thinkers50 Awards Gala 2021 on 15-16 November this year.
In March, Meister was added to the Thinkers50 Radar List. The list, which comprises 30 individuals to watch in the coming year, is described by the organizers as “an eclectic mix of people who have crossed our personal radars and who have been nominated on the Thinkers50 website […] an amazing group of people who, we believe, will make an impact with their campaigning, their ideas, their research and their passion in the year ahead”.
